From Italy to destinations throughout Europe

skip: From Italy to destinations throughout Europe
DB Schenker Rail Italia is the Italian subsidiary of DB Schenker Rail, Europe’s largest rail freight carrier. Its launch enables the DB Schenker Rail Group to provide seamless transport services between Italy, Germany, Scandinavia and the Benelux countries.

DB Schenker Rail Italia – your efficient connection to Italy

Rail freight services throughout Europe from a single source – this is what the transport and logistics industry demands of the railroads. Thanks to the liberalization of the transport sector in Europe, this is now becoming possible. DB Schenker Rail, the first truly European rail freight company and Europe's highest-volume carrier, has accepted the challenge and established a rail freight company of its own in Italy as part of the European DB Schenker Rail network. Emanating from Strade Ferrate del Mediterraneo (SFM), DB Schenker Rail Italia in a first step owns and operates eight locomotives and has a staff of about 60 employees.

At home in Alessandria at the heart of northern Italy

All DB Schenker Rail transports in Italy are managed from here. The Alessandria rail node has always been important for rail freight transport. Located between the cities of Milan, Turin and Genoa, it serves all destinations in north-western Italy. To do so, DB Schenker Rail takes advantage of all the resources of the European DB Schenker Rail network. These include, among other things, 100 powerful electric multiple-system locomotives that will soon be able to operate in Italy, but also some 110,000 modern freight cars to meet all our customers’ transport demands. In Alessandria, 60 highly qualified DB Schenker Rail Italia employees are working to fulfil all the customers’ transport requests.

Powerful connections to destinations throughout northern Europe

Even today, more than half of our transports are cross-border. The Italian economy is very much export-oriented and requires efficient connections to northern Europe – and DB Schenker Rail provides them. We offer shuttle connections via the Gotthard, Simplon and Brenner routes to destinations throughout northern Europe, serving more than 1,600 rail freight stations in Germany, the Netherlands and Denmark alone. Furthermore, DB Schenker Rail provides smooth connections to eastern Europe and Scandinavia. This means that we can offer reliable transport times of only 48 hours from Milan to Stockholm, for example.
